Organization History

ReelGreen was inspired by a conversation with Goldman Prize-winning filmmaker-activist Judy Bonds, who armed with a PowerPoint presentation and accompanied by the Clean Energy Action Coalition – they were able to gather supporters and eventually convince several universities to transition to 100% renewable energy, Executive Director Carolyn Scott wondered that if a PowerPoint presentation could effect change, couldn’t a film make an even stronger case for change? In the fall of 2006, Ms. Scott and other environmental activists and filmmakers agreed that inspiring films could galvanize communities to make substantial, sustainable environmental change, and, with this, RG was born. Soon, the core team grew to include environmental educators, marketing experts, and Internet professionals; leaders in the environmental movement joined RG’s Advisory Board to provide expertise and help RG realize its goals.

In August 2007, RG was invited by the Livability Project, a Sonoma, CA-based organization that works to address the systemic nature of sustainability, to collaborate at a knowledge-building workshop. Out of this workshop, RG and the Livability Project agreed to a collaboration in which the Livability Project would initially be the facilitators and coordinators for the action plans on RG community projects.

Currently, ReelGreen is organized as follows:
Insert org chart. (Kim… I’m assuming you have the org. chart I constructed? Since its build with a Microsoft tool, I’m assuming that you should be able to cut and past it in.)

In month of 2008, RG will file for IRS non-profit status. Currently, our staff is comprised of volunteers, but by the end of our first fiscal year, we expect to employ xx full-time and xx part-time employees. Need to insert something here about the web site. Also, I need to include something about the advisory boards.
